The Children's Rights and Participation Group, are a multi-agency group of professionals who work together to support children's rights and participation in to the day to day practice of staff working with, or making decisions that directly impact upon, children, young people and families in Highland.Â
The plan detailed above gives the broad themes of the work that is currently underway (May 2024). Within each of these themes, there will often be several pieces of work under development or reaching completion, and as a group we report progress back to the Integrated Children's Services Board on a regular basis. As such, the plan is a live document, which is reviewed each time we meet as a group, to ensure that we are progressing children's rights and participation continuously, in Highland.
As this website grows and develops we will share examples of the work that the group is involved in.
The Children's Rights and Participation Group are delighted to be able to share this co-designed work which invites practitioners and policy-makers to explore common adult myths about children's capacity, and how these myths can unintentionally block participation under the UNCRC. Through the voices of children and the fictional duo Callum and Mungo, the tool offers a safe, playful way to examine our assumptions, spark meaningful discussion, and strengthen rights-based practice. It's not about blame. It's about curiosity, care and ensuring effect for all voices.
Please watch the video which shares more of the resource (coming soon to share), and have a look at our posters detailing how Callum and Mungo came to fruition!
